On May 22, 1902, an explosion ripped through the Coal Creek mine, operated by the Crow’s Nest Pass Coal Company based in Fernie, BC. Of the 150 men who went into the mine on that shift, the explosion claimed the lives of 128. The disaster left an indelible mark on the early communities of Coal Creek and Fernie.
Join us on Monday, May 22 at Fernie City Hall, the former offices of the Crow’s Nest Pass Coal Co and the site of the Miners’ Walk, to remember this disaster. This exucmenical community service will be led by Rev. Andrea Brennan. Reception to follow at the Fernie Museum.
