The Fernie Museum opened in 1979. To celebrate our 40th anniversay, the Fernie Museum is throwing a series of parties, including a Gala birthday party on December 13 beginning at 7:00 pm to kick off our 6 month long celebrations!

WARM UP THE DANCE FLOOR WITH STEAMBOAT VACATION
STEAMBOAT VACATION. During this fall’s Art After Dark event, this band was such a hit that we just had to bring them back for an encore performance! On the Museum’s main floor, Hot Chilli will lead this soulful funk trio, whose origins are tied into the Fernie music scene. Silky vocals and rhythm guitar are courtesy of Hot Chilli. Crisp, happenin’ and solid drumming comes from Mr. Germany himself, Lars Horstmann. These young fellas aim to bring people together through music, have a darn good time and play some funky soul, RnB and rock.

KATHERINE RUSSELL is one of Canada’s leading glass artists, based in Elkford. She splits her time between making blown glasswork and kiln-formed glasswork, utilizing both methods to explore new concepts, techniques and creative objectives.
In the early 20th century, most decorative glass production happened in factories. The design and affordability of smaller furnaces permitted artists to work with smaller production runs from their own studio, giving rise to what is known as the studio glass movement.
In this newly curated exhibit, Hot and Cold: Glass Art In Three Parts, Russell examines the methods and techniques that she employs in her studio. The series includes large blown works for which she is most known, a kiln-fired experimental series titled ‘Memories are Malleable’ and cold-fused work. The exhibit demonstrates an incredible breadth and diversity of work which represents this relatively new genre of decorative art.

BARRIE ELLIOT, CELEBRITY CHEF. Growing up in her family’s health food store and restaurant in rural Nova Scotia, Barrie spent her early years rolling cinnamon buns and stocking shelves. At 17 Barrie’s wild heart led her to embark on a culinary adventure west. She spent time working the kitchens in isolated fishing camps on the West Coast to backcountry lodges in the Rocky Mountains. Completing her apprenticeship hours at a catering company in Vancouver affirmed her love for the diverse restaurant and catering industry. Soon after, Barrie attained her Red Seal Chef Certification in Culinary Arts and made her way to the quaint mountain town of Fernie. Over the past 10 years Barrie has run kitchens, consulted on menus and started her own successful catering company.
Fortune favours the brave and in 2015 Barrie competed on the popular national Food Network TV show “Chopped Canada”. Winning her episode helped her launch her dreams of starting her own business in Fernie.
SKIMMERHORN WINERY. At Skimmerhorn Winery and Vineyard, they craft wines in small batches from grapes grown on the benchlands of our estate in Creston, BC. The winery is named after the majestic Skimmerhorn mountain range which contributes to our unique terroir, soil and micro-climate. The combination of these factors affords our wines flavours that are truly exceptional. The wines are concentrated, balanced and ready to enjoy.
FERNIE DISTILLERS. Fernie Distillers is driven by passion, and uses proven age-old techniques and the best quality ingredients to produce spirits we can be proud of. Their product line will start with No 9 Mine Vodka, Fernie Fog Liqueur and will grow to include a variety of infusions, unique barrel-aged and seasonal batches.
